Kentucky Derby Online Betting – Contenders Emerging March 21st, 2012 | Horse Racing betting | No Comments »

With about 7 weeks to go before Kentucky Derby betting, some contenders are emerging and online betting enthusiasts have to be on the look out for pretenders.

Just like in every single year, there are runners that look promising but get hurt on the Triple Crown Trail and this year along with Algorithms and Out of Bounds already hurt, Bob Baffert’s student Fed Biz has hit the pine after winning a mile allowance in under 1:35 at Santa Anita.

Baffert, the consummate horsemen, could not pinpoint what was exactly wrong but he knows that there is a hind-end issue and that is enough to stop on the sophomore.

With March Madness in full throttle right now on the online sportsbooks, it’s easy to see how horse trainers and basketball coaches deal with some of the same problems.

In hoops, you have to treat players differently. Some respond to being called on the carpet day in and day out when mistakes are made and some go into a shell when singled out because of a mental error or a super bad decision.

Trainers have to be a combination of good cop, bad cop, big brother, and maybe most importantly, part the reincarnation of Sunny Jim Fitzsimmons, who won three times the first Saturday in May, saddled 4 Preakness winners and 6 Belmont stakes heroes.

Racehorses have tiny ankles that must carry flesh of 1,000 pounds or more at speeds of over 40 miles per hour and cover a distance of ground. During the grueling spring, these animals are pushed to win 3 races in 5 weeks while shipping to different locales in the process.

Having a game plan is key to success in May and mapping out the absolute correct path for your runner is imperial.

As of now the top contenders are representing each coast as Union Rags is doing his thing back East and Creative Cause is proving he is the top prospect in the West.

Cause has never run a bad race. He broke on the scene winning the debut with a brilliant 98 Beyer, took a Grade 1 at 2 and was hung wide in Hansen’s BC Juvenile victory. The runner got a perfect prep in February then was inching away from his rivals in the San Felipe when recording a 98 Beyer and maybe more importantly, galloped out strongly well in front after they had cross the wire.

The blood is there for Creative Cause to be a star. His sire Giant’s Causeway earned over $3 million and at one point in his racing career won 5 straight Group 1 races to be named European Horse of the Year.

Creative Cause’s dam herself won over a million dollars winning a number of stakes including a Grade 1.

Union Rags mind you is no rags to riches story. He cost nearly $400K, is out of a winning dam that is kin to a near $400,000 earner and you can build a case he was best when he just failed to catch Hansen BC Day.

That was his only lost, it came by a head, and he got revenge in his 2012 opener coming away in the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth with a 98 Beyer.

If these two stay intact, the Derby should be a show stopper and know that a number of runners that ran in the BC Juvenile have gone on to thrive since.

Other players, lesser lights, that could mature quickly are Mark Valeski, Bodemeiser and El Padrino.

Stay tuned for more online betting sites updates.

Rebel Stakes Betting – Rebel With a Cause March 17th, 2012 | Horse Racing betting | No Comments »

Who: Thoroughbreds – Secret Circle (key horse)
What: Horse Racing Betting Tips – The $500,000 Rebel Stakes
Where: Oaklawn Park
When: Saturday, March 17th

With the Grade 2 $500,000 Rebel Stakes set for Saturday at Oaklawn, it brings to mind how the sophomore stars this year resemble the kids portrayed in the film Rebel Without a Cause, as those cast in that movie were confused teenagers much like some of the youngsters hoping to find sports betting glory the first Saturday in May in the Kentucky Derby.

The Rebel Stakes at 8 and a half furlongs has been a nice prep of late for the Triple Crown. Smarty Jones won this race in 2004 and went on to win two-thirds of the Triple Crown.

Back in 1998 Victory Gallop won the Rebel, ran second in the Derby and Preakness, then cashed in the Belmont Stakes.

In 2007, Curlin won the Rebel for fun, but could not catch Street Sense in the Derby. He did win the Preakness and became a two-time Horse of the Year.

Bob Baffert has trained the winner of this race the last two years and last year watched his The Factor parlay a win in the Grade 2 San Vicente to a 6 and a quarter length Rebel win with a 103 Beyer.

Baffert is back for more online best sportsbook action and he appears loaded with Secret Circle, who took a division of the Southwest Stakes here last month. Circle posted a game win and has trained fast at Santa Anita since and looms a handful right back.

Unbridled’s Note, who breaks from the inside, lost all chance with the poor start in last. He has a right to run all day long as half sister Spoken Fur banked $675K and won the Grade 1 CCA Oaks at a mile and a half.

Atigun came from left field to post a popular win here in January and has trained steadily for this but will need a trip. He was pointed to the Southwest but had a quarter crack and could not make the race.

Cyber Secret will need to rebound after a poor effort in the Southwest when hooked wide. Not sure the race sets up great for him while Optimizer never got untracked last time and will need a trip to cash.

Sabercat will be making his yearly debut and has trained fast for Steve Asmussen in California. The place horse in the maiden breaker graduated next out, and then took a $200K Delta stakes and was 2nd beaten 3 in Hansens Gotham.

Scatman was tons best of the rest but was collared by Secret Circle last time and is looking at more speed this time while Jake Mo has more speed than he showed last time when 2nd in Castaway’s win and the blood is there with a near $300,000 earner in the tree.

Reckless Jerry has been very consistent and the feeling is he has not yet reached his top. Toby Keith’s charge should give a good account of himself.

Adirondack King got good for about 2 months in Philly last year and lost a little ground in the lane in his Oaklawn debut. He is hung out in the marooned slot but figures to be coming late.

Pee H Dee is the smart guy that ran evenly in his last but his tactical speed will put him in the thick of it early on.

Najjaar took awhile to figure it out but seems to thrive at Oaklawn and the feeling is we have yet to see his best effort.

Ring It Up figures to stalk but he doesn’t appear to be good enough at this point.

As this race unfolds, look for Rafael Bejarano to get Secret Circle to settle just off the pace. That could be the key to the race. If he can relax, look for Circle to make his move at the top of the lane and draw away. If looking for a score in the exotic, thing about using Najjaar, Reckless Jerry and Unbridled’s Note in the gimmick.

Good luck with the online betting sites.

Najjaar Ready for Class Test in Rebel March 17th, 2012 | Horse Racing betting | No Comments »

Who: Thoroughbreds – Scatman, Sabercat, Secret Circle, Najjaar, Ellafitz
What: Horse Racing Betting Tips – The Rebel, The Santa Margarita Invitational
Where: Oaklawn Park, Santa Anita
When: Saturday, March 17th

Secret Circle will get all the press prior to Saturday’s Grade2 Rebel at Oaklawn, but look for a freight train named Najjaar to garner the headlines after it’s over. Out west, the likelihood of rain makes front-runner Ellafitz an even more prohibitive favorite in the Grade 1 Santa Margarita Invitational at Santa Anita. We’ll take a closer look at these races below.

In The Rebel, #8-Secret Circle (9-5) figures to sit a nice trip pressing the pace of #3-Scatman (8-1) to his inside…similar to what we saw in The Southwest. This time, however, at a mile-and-a-sixteenth, they must run the full length of the Oaklawn stretch, with powerful finisher #11-Najjaar (6-1) bearing down on them. Secret Circle will be toting an extra five pounds this time too, equaling the weight he’ll be spotting Najjaar. Najjaar, making his stakes debut, will offer a square price at 5-1 or better, in part because of the rather modest lifetime-best Beyer Speed Figure of 84 he earned last out. Keep in mind, though, that he defeated older horses in that allowance score, something that none of the other members of the Rebel field have even attempted at this early stage of their careers. I’ll bet on #11-Najjaar to win at odds of 5-1 or better, and key him top and bottom in exactas with #3-Scatman, #7-Sabercat and #8-Secret Circle. The exacta tickets will look like this: 11/3,7,8 and 3,7,8/11.

It appears that #4-Ellafitz (6-5) will have an easy time of it on the front end in The Santa Margarita. No other member of the field has had the lead at any of the first three points of call in any race since the beginning of 2011! The likelihood of rain may make her task even easier. Although she’s never raced in off going, she’s certainly bred to love the slop, with a Tomlinson mud mark of 421. #5-Include Me Out (9-5) is in career form, having won the Grade 2 La Canada last out in convincing fashion. She won her only try on an off track, so I’ll use her to round out the chalky exacta. I’ll bet a straight 4-5 exacta, Ellafitz over Include Me Out.

Those are my horse racing betting tips for the weekend. Best of luck and happy gambling!

Horse Racing Betting in the USA March 16th, 2012 | Horse Racing betting | No Comments »

I am on holiday in Florida and want to bet on the racing at Cheltenham but am told this is illegal in the USA is this correct. Has anybody else found this problem.

Sadly, it is going to be a problem unless you choose one of the major websites like Bovada.lr

I am looking at TwinSpires.com and it appears that they have Cheltenham coverage, but I’m not sure if they have betting available on it. Without logging into the website, I would say that they do offer horse betting on races outside of the US.

I learned about horse racing legality when I was researching a freelance article for Yahoo Sports.

twinpires.com. it is not illegal, as i have an account and bet races around the world.

how to pick good odds on horse racing March 15th, 2012 | Horse Racing betting | No Comments »

ive never betted before and a friend has asked me to pick a few horses for him, so im really unsure on how to pick good horses, what do i need to look for?

Always choose one with a funny name ^_^

Well first like you need to look at the names and give them to a gypsy
then she should tell you what one
Then choose the one underneath that, and choose the name with the nearest next alphabet letter. Then move down one from that.

@_@

The fast ones? Duh!

I’m sure you realize there’s a lot more to horse racing than odds, and as a handicapper for many years, I’ll tell you there’s no magic in it..and,of course, with that there’s NO guaranteed that you’ll always have the winner since what we are dealing with in horse racing is probabilities and possibilities. Horse Racing is very unpredictable, anything can happen at any time and it usually does, so if anyone promises a guaranteed pick, don’t ever believe it, for it’s impossible. I enjoy horse racing, however, I only bet on certain races, mostly the High Stake Races. I do it for fun, and manage my money wisely. I’m very active in the industry, helping race horses (after racing careers ends), also aid in safety with trainers and owners, so it’s more than a betting game to me. I love it, and I’m not in it for the gamble but more for support and of course the challenge. OK..Always remember there is NO Guarantee in anything ! NOW.. The odds on a horse are a good indicator of where the horse is expected to finish (a horse with 2/1 odds has a better chance of winning than a 30/1 horse, but the 30/1 horse (long-shot) is a much better payout, however, if you want to play it safe, look for a horse with at least 3/1 odds). Other factors to take into consideration: When did the horse run its last race? Experts say you want your horse to have run a race within the last 28 days to be sure it’s in good shape. How many horses are competing? Obviously, it’s a lot harder to pick a winner when there are a lot of contestants in the race. What does it say on the horses form? If there is a C, the horse has won on that track before. If there is a D, the horse has won on that distance before. These are both good bets. These are some tips, however, there’s a whole lot more to handicapping, and it’s a skill that takes time and the learning never ends.

Good Luck To YOU ! Have Fun !
:)

The favourite often wins the 1st race to give punters false confidence, the last race on average goes more to an outsider as bookies try and win back losses

I write about online horse betting odds as if it were an encyclopedia entry. I’m not sure where you are from, but you can check out some of my writing on KentuckyDerby.org. If you get confused about calculating your odds, always keep in mind that there are online calculators for that!

Hows my poem for English, any add-ons or suggestions March 14th, 2012 | Horse Racing betting | No Comments »

any help or feedback would be appreciated, and i hope this poem lightens your day.

Fred
This is the story of a man named Fred
Who at the end of this poem will be dead.
Fred had a problem, he liked to bet
He thought when he wins it big he’d be set.
No matter how he gambled he’d never win
He eventually spent all of his food money and grew thin.
Soon after his wife, his little honey bunny
Left him, because he had no more money.
Although it didn’t bother him that she went
Because now he could gamble away every cent.
Eventually, though, he ran out of cash
And soon his decision making was no longer rash.
From the bank he tried to mortgage out a loan
But they wouldn’t do it for he’d gambled away his home.
With no one to turn to he asked the mob
He lied to them that he had an inside job.
He told them his favorite horse was sure to win the next race
So the exited gangsters gave him the money with great haste.
They soon learned the truth after he horribly lost
And now Fred had become a major cost.
Because Fred had had lied
His hands and feet were forcefully tied.
They took him to a nearby lake and attached a mighty weight
For Fred there was no escaping his fate.
To the bottom of the lake his weight made a mad dash
And so he sunk to the bottom in a flash.

This does not brighten my day. As a matter of fact, it was very gloomy and depressing. I suggest making a poem that isn’t ridiculously stupid and depressing.

I think your poem is witty and clever :) makes me feel really glad that I don’t have a gambling problem (that would really suck) you should keep writing, I enjoy reading quirky poetry, some people might like only happy go lucky light content, but I personally find that style to be boring =D plz keep up the unique poetry!!

Triple Crown Betting – It’s Heating Up March 14th, 2012 | Horse Racing betting | No Comments »

With spring in the air the Triple Crown sports betting picture is starting to heat up and a couple of runners made some noise this weekend coast to coast.

In Florida for Prospective, it was about a night and day kind of trip in the Tampa Bay Derby. In his prior race he was hung wide every step of the way from the marooned 11 post but last Saturday he drew the rail and took full advantage of the cozy slot.

The son of Malibu Moon ran his record to 4 for 7 and he’s only been out of the money once, when he didn’t get the best of trips in Hansen’s BC Juvenile score.

Out of a stakes sports bet winning dam that won routing several times, Prospective has improved his Beyers this year and posted a solid 88 on Saturday.

Trainer Mark Casse had added blinkers for the first time and Prospective responded by being fairly close up the entire race. And this is not overnight sensation. Prospective cost $250,000 but now has earned nearly double that number.

Maybe more importantly, this guy proved he could handle quality runners in a big field. Casse is a solid trainer and has hit about about 21% this year alone.

Prospective will be pointed to the Wood Memorial on April 7 at Aqueduct instead of racing in the Blue Grass at Keeneland a week later.

Out West, it was a case of cause and effect in the San Felipe Stakes as the top two choices in the race, Creative Cause and Bodemeister, put on a show for the fans in a tooth and nail battle with Cause prevailing by a half length.

Creative Cause is a serious runner and has been expertly handled by trainer Mike Harrington. He was third in the BC Juvenile and got an ideal 7-furlong prep for Saturday’s race with a solid third in the San Vicente.

It took him awhile to switch leads, but once he did, the Cause just took off.

As for the winner the class is stamped all over his bottom side, as his dam Dream of Summer was a flat-out monster. She won several stakes routing, took 10 of her 20 starts and banked over $1.1 million.

Creative Cause’s rider Joel Rosario was impressed with the effort. Rosario: “ My horse was a little green at the top of the lane, but I wanted to make sure that he didn’t wait for another horse to come beat him. He galloped out good after the wire which helps to show he may be the right horse for the Derby.”

Derby fever and Derby dreaming has evidently hit Joel.

Next stop for Cause will be the Santa Anita Derby the same day as the Wood Memorial.

Bodemeister was coming off a facile near 10-length maiden breaking win and he will live to fight another day. Getting an education in this race, even in defeat, could be one of the best things that may have happened to this runner.

This youngster is in the right hands of Bob Baffert and if he stays healthy will be a best sportsbook factor moving forward.

Sports bet has India as favourites for the Asia cup at $2.60 for winning the series March 13th, 2012 | Horse Racing betting | No Comments »

Odds quoted are:

India $2.60
SL. $2.90
Pak. $3.00
Bang $51.00

What do you think of the value? Is Pakistan being undersold or are India and SL short in what is probably a three horse race?

Hi! I thin Pakistan will win the race among these three India Pak and Sri Lanka.

I would have a lazy 50 on Sri Lanka or Pakistan

India always do well in the subcontinent and the fact that they thrashed Sri Lanka in a relatively flat pitch in Australia must have added to the confidence of the bookies.

In last five years India is unbeaten in Sub-continent. We whitewashed Australia in tests two times, whitewashed England in tests and one days both, won world cup and Asia cup and won bilateral series too. Thats why India is favorite may be but its gonna a tough competition.

You can have a safe bet on true wc champs. lol

pakistan

I think Pakistan ll win this race. because Pakistan have the best bowlers. and the new the new opener Jamshed is also play very well and the partnership of Pakistani openers is very impressive. my vote is for Pakistan.

i think india will won match

I think I have to be happy with $2.62 because which team is maximum hope of winning their will be bet but team with minimum hope will get more bet value so public will go towards the money.Thank you!

They’re kidding! I would have Lanka as favourites.Love to see Bangladesh win, some lucky guy would clean up bigtime, lol.
