USTA picks Birmingham, Alabama, to host Davis Cup December 18th, 2008
The city of Birmingham, Alabama, will host the 2009 first-round Davis Cup matches between the United States and Roger Federer-led Switzerland on March 6-8.
The Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex Arena is expected to seat more than 17,000 for the best-of-five series. It’s the first time a Davis Cup match will be played in Alabama.
Federer, the 13-time Grand Slam singles champion, has said he will play in the first round for the first time since 2004.
